Automobile Insurance Overview

Bodily Injury Liability (BI)

• Pays for injuries or death you cause to others.

• Covers legal defense if you're sued.

 

Property Damage Liability (PD)

• Pays for damage you cause to another person's property or vehicle.

• Covers legal defense if you're sued.

• Florida minimum required: $10,000.

 

Personal Injury Protection (PIP)

• Pays regardless of fault.

• 80% of medical expenses.

• 60% of lost wages.

• $5,000 death benefit.

• Initial treatment must be received within 14 days.

• Florida minimum required: $10,000.

 

Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist (UM)

• Pays for your injuries when the at-fault driver has no BI coverage or not enough insurance.

• May cover medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and death.

Medical Payments (Med Pay)

• Pays your medical and funeral expenses regardless of fault.

• Helps pay expenses not covered by PIP.

 

Comprehensive

• Covers damage to your vehicle from events other than a collision.

• Examples: theft, fire, vandalism, flood, windstorm, falling objects, or hitting an animal.

 

Collision

• Covers damage to your vehicle from a collision with another vehicle or object.

• Pays regardless of fault.

• If your vehicle is totaled, payment is generally based on its Actual Cash Value (ACV).

 

Towing & Labor

• Covers roadside assistance and towing up to your policy limits.

 

Rental Reimbursement

• Pays for a rental vehicle while your car is being repaired after a covered loss.
